MG 1st Front Cover Mock-up

This is my first front cover. I have used this background image because most of the magazines that I saw had a medium/long shot of a single person who didn’t always have anything to do the magazine apart from settings the target audience who for this magazine should be young adults who like techno music. I have used the masthead that was most popular when I did my research and also have done the masthead colour green like my research also preferred. I then asked which colour that people would prefer for all of the other text and this was green too so that is why most of my magazine is green. In this magazine I will use all green because that is what my audience wanted. I have a small ad on the top left for a new club in Stoke called Lokes. I have put this in because most magazines have some kind of advertisement but this advertisement is better because it relates to the audience. I have put the preferred slogan ‘The Place for Techno!’ I the middle of the page because this is part of my layout design. On the bottom left I have a competition to win a car; I have this because in many magazines I see some kind of prize to be won. I have put my bar code on top right because it takes up a lot of the empty space there however the bar code is not usually there.

This is my magazine later. The largest change I have done is to move to barcode which I think was in an awkward spot and also made it a little smaller. Even so the barcode is in a better place, it now leaves a lot of empty space on the top right. I felt that my text was hard to read on the background so I have put drop shadow on to make it easier to read. I have also put a glow around the image of the car just to make it stand out a little more. I have made the glow green again because I want to stay with the colour in this magazine.

This is my finished first front cover. I have changed the font of the text on the bottom right just to make it a little more interesting by adding another font. Both of these fonts now (not including the masthead font) are preferred as my research shows, so I am still doing what the audience wants. I have added a black outline to the slogan to make it easier to read and stand out more. Finally I have put an issue number and the date next to the barcode as this is in many magazines.

MusicMagPlanning

MusicMagResearch

Here i wanted to find out which slogan people would prefer to see on the music magazine. Most of them would prefer to see "the place for techno".

For my research; i asked 20 people for which they preferred in the following questions.

Here i asked 20 people for their preferred music genre and Techno was the most popular with 35% of the votes and leading Metal by 2 votes.

So from this research i will make my magazine a Techno magazine.

With knowing that the most popular music genre was Techno; i asked the 20 people which name they would prefer for a techno magazine. Tech won with 40% of the votes and leading Division and Pride by 3 votes.

So from this research i will call my magazine "Tech".

The next thing i wanted to know was which colour people preferred to see in the background; the most popular was green with 30% of the votes and leading blue by a single vote.

So from this research i will make my background green.

I then wanted to know which font people preferred for the Masthead and the most popular was Techoid which i found on a website called http://www.dafont.com/. Techno won with 40% of the votes and leading Arial by 3.

So from this research i will make my Masthead's font "techoid".

The next thing i wanted to know was other fonts for the text. Berlin Sans FB and Bolts SF were the most popular with 30% of the votes each and they were both leading Techoid and Comic Sans MS by 2 votes.

So from this research i will use Berlin Sans FB and Bolts SF as my fonts for the text.
